The BPI has announced that British boy band One Direction's third album Midnight Memories was the top selling global album last year, with four million sales in just five weeks after its November 25 release.

The album, which the BPI previously announced was the UK's top seller with 685,000 copies, had 19 number one chart positions worldwide, and made the group the first in US chart history to debut in the top spot with their first three albums.
